ALP1 portraits

For my portrait I've chosen to shoot a photographer since it's a photography class it made sense to me.So I shot Martin Girard one of the best and busiest advertising photographer in Montreal. His work won many awards, he works for Rogers mobility, loto quebec, sid lee, and many more but on of his most famous campaign is the one for Rogers.


My shot could be used in photographers magazine or art magazine like applied arts or marketing magazine or communication arts or more urban magazine like Urbania.

Since Martin likes humour I decided to shoot him in different pose in his studio that recalls the Rogers campaign which made him famous.

This is my ambient light portrait shot using only 2 windows in the studio, shot at f2.8 at 1/25 to get a shallow depth of field so the background is a bit blurred.
iso 100 and 55mm lens

This is the reflector shot, using the light of the window with a huge white board with 2 silver reflectors attached to the white foam core to highlight specific area so he is detached from the background. I gave the picture a old film treatment since we had a 8x10 in the shot. Shot at f2.8 at 1/25 to get a shallow depth of field and at iso 100 with a 55mm lens.

This is my flash shot, I used one flash on my right to create a split light but also used the window light on the right as a fill light. This was shot at f13 and 1/6 to get some of the ambient light, iso 100 and 55 mm lens. I really like this one and I gave a little treatment a bit like Martin on his Rogers campaign, a bit of a retro feel which works well with his jacket, the camera and the background.







The biggest problem I had with this project is that I had to reshoot since my camera card malfunctioned and I had to resend it to the company and they sent me a new one but the pictures where gone.

APD 2 - Assignment 1

For my three images I didn't want to use any random pictures or concept.
My concept for this assignment is "I miss summer".

I used simple mostly snow white background with objects that have a strong color that
reminds us of the warmth and fun of summer. The used of a small F number was used
(f 2.8) in the picture to really create a strong focus on the main element and create a soft
pure bokeh, the snow helped a lot to create this. The rule of third is respected in all the picture to create images interesting to look at. The white snowy background is used to create some kind of sadness and depression that often happens in the last months of winter.
